Hidden treasures are now within reach with Safari!

Powered by Minelab's Full Band Spectrum (FBS) multiple frequency technology, the Safari combines deep, sensitive and accurate detecting for anyone demanding both simplicity and performance. Safari uses advanced digital filtering to eliminate the influence of ground signals automatically so you can experience easy, seamless detecting whatever the field conditions.

With its High Trash Density setting, Target Ids and audio tones are updated when sweeping over closely spaced targets fast! This improves the recovery of deeply buried high conductivity targets in a trashy environment and allows you to more accurately identify the type of target found.

Product Review December 10, 2009 By John "John_in_NC" (Raleigh)

Great Metal Detector!

I will skip the features as you can easily look these up at Minelab's website.

I just finished my 3rd hunt with this detector, I am a newbie but from how I see it, this detector works very well and I am delighted with my purchase.

First off this detector is a set and go unit. The coil is a huge 11" Double D Coil. Unlike a concentric coil which is like waving a "V" shaped cone over the ground a Double D is like waving a screen through the ground sifting out all signals meaning you will miss nothing which takes me to my next point.

In the woods, the unit works very well, depth was fabulous. I mean, with this detector you bring a shovel not a trowel. You can set the sensitivity to auto or manual 1-20, I took this in a local park, thousands of signals. The 11" DD coild is a bit too large to pinpint some targets and not wanting to dig huge holes I ended up lowering the sensitivity to 8, even then I was sill digging 8" holes from some signals.

On the beach this unit is best, you can walk the wet sand area with no falsing! This is where you can really take advantage of the FBS technology to overcome the mineralization of the salt water in with the sand. Another detector operator on the beach with top end unit from another manufacturer was not able to read signals or even ground balance in places where I was able to detect with no trouble at all at near max sensitivity.

The unit has a lot of mass to it so you have to swing it a lot slower than many of the less expensive lighter units. This unit is a bit too heavy for my wife but she still was able to use it and loved it.

Battery life is good and the quality is outstanding - it is a very solid. Many brands you see out there are not manufacturers but merely importers from China. In my eyes Minelab seems to be a leader in Metal Detectors. I like how they have set up a few websites to help their customers get the most out of their products.

In the short time I have had it I am already getting better at determining coins from junk, you have to go by sound not just the Visual Display Indicator. I am having so much fun with this unit. Not to mention some fresh air and good exercise!

There are a lot of great units out there and trying to make a choice can be daunting. Each unit has it's own special benefit. For someone on a tight budget who plans to dig all signals and just go for recent coins the little Bounty Hunter is nice and light and easy to swing, it's just not as good at helping you identify targets correctly as the more expensive units.

If I didn't plan on using mine at the beach to potentially find gold rings I would have gone with one of the Minelab X-terra units. But since I wanted the large coil to cover a lot of area fast along with a simple unit with FBS technology that I could use on the beach in the wet sand with maximum depth, the Safari was a best choice for me.
